Havi – The Artist Who Turns Pain Into Music

Pakistan’s music scene has always made room for artists who speak honestly. Havi is one of those artists. Born Abdul Rehman Sajid in Karachi, he is a singer, songwriter, and music producer who has spent the better part of a decade building one of the most emotionally authentic voices in Pakistani music. He did not arrive with a label behind him or a television shortcut. He arrived with a band, a raw talent, and the kind of determination that only comes from knowing exactly why you are doing something.

Today, he estimates performing over 200 shows nationwide, a number that reflects just how seriously he takes the relationship between an artist and a live audience. And that relationship is at the heart of everything Havi does.

Background and Education

Havi studied at IBA Karachi and is based in Karachi, Pakistan.  Choosing to pursue music while coming from an academic background like IBA, one of Pakistan’s most competitive business schools, says something about the strength of his commitment to his craft. He was not chasing music as a hobby or a fallback option. It was always the plan, even when the plan did not make easy sense.

As the breadwinner of his household and a rising star, he has been facing sleepless nights, sacrificing family time, and enduring the loss of privacy, all while pouring his heart and soul into his craft. That personal context gives his music a weight that listeners can feel even if they do not know the backstory. When Havi sings about struggle and self-questioning, it is not a performance. It is his actual life translated into sound.

The Band Years: Auj and Pepsi Battle of the Bands

Havi’s mainstream journey began with the rock band Auj. He first gained recognition as the lead vocalist of the rock band Auj, which gained nationwide recognition after winning Pepsi Battle of the Bands Season 4 in 2019. The band became known for songs such as Lafz, Aansu, and Duhrao, which blended poetic Urdu lyricism with alternative rock influences.

Winning Pepsi Battle of the Bands is not a small achievement. The platform has historically been one of the most credible launching pads for Pakistani rock artists, and Auj’s victory placed Havi’s voice in front of millions of viewers across the country. After creating soulful tracks like Lafz, Aansu, and Duhrao for fans, the musician decided to embark on his solo journey in September 2024.

The decision to leave a successful band and start fresh as a solo artist is never easy. For Havi, it was necessary. He did not have enough freedom to make creative decisions while being part of the band. However, as a solo artist, Havi is running the whole operation alongside his team. That creative ownership is visible in every solo release he has put out since.

The Solo Journey: A New Chapter Begins

When Havi stepped out on his own in 2024, he did not play it safe. He released the singles Andaz-e-Karam and Abyss, both marking a clear shift from the rock-driven sound of his earlier work toward a more experimental and introspective style.

Andaz-e-Karam was a collaboration with Farasat Anees, one of Pakistan’s most respected lyricists and composers. The track is a modern interpretation of a devotional qawwali, reintroducing the classic to mainstream audiences by blending its traditional Sufi essence with contemporary production, resonating particularly with younger listeners.  It was a bold choice for a debut solo single because it signaled immediately that Havi was not interested in being predictable.

Abyss was equally impactful. Abyss gained notable attention upon release and was later acquired by Sony Music , an endorsement that speaks to the international quality of his production and songwriting. Getting a track acquired by Sony Music as an independent Pakistani artist is a milestone that very few musicians in this country can claim.

Nescafe Basement and Growing Industry Recognition

One of the most prestigious platforms for emerging Pakistani musical talent is Nescafe Basement, and Havi earned his place there in 2025. In 2025, Havi appeared in NESCAFE Basement Season 6, performing two collaborative tracks: Na Milay with Afifa Moin, produced by Arsalan Hasan and Haider Abbas, and Woh Raat with Mohammad Saad Saleem, produced by Haider Abbas.

Na Milay was released on January 24, 2025 by Sony Music Middle East and South Asia under the Nescafe Basement label.  Being on Nescafe Basement and having those tracks distributed through Sony Music globally is a clear sign that the industry has taken notice of Havi, and that his music is finding audiences well beyond Pakistan.

The Sound and the Philosophy

What makes Havi different from most artists his age is that he approaches music as a deeply personal form of thinking. He views songwriting as a form of self-reflection, using music as a lens to analyze his emotions and surroundings. He has said that he does not design his compositions in advance, allowing the song to reveal its own face.

His lyrics often juxtapose vulnerability with philosophical depth, blending introspection, existentialism, and Sufi influences. Songs like Farz and Saat Din have been described as meditations on purpose and emotional exhaustion, while Moon and Abyss trace an arc from rupture to realization.

That range, from existential darkness to quiet hope, is what keeps his audience coming back. His music does not give easy answers. It sits with difficult emotions and makes them feel less lonely.

Live Performances and Stage Presence

Havi is known for the quality of his live shows as much as his studio recordings. He has performed extensively across Pakistan, appearing at festivals and venues such as 432 Sessions. Known for emotionally immersive sets, he has described his stage presence as therapeutic, saying that on stage he feels like a doctor who wants people to re-live their lives with new eyes.

That philosophy translates into performances that audiences describe as deeply affecting. He is not on stage to show off. He is there to create a shared emotional experience, and that is exactly what event organizers need when they want their audience to feel something real.

He has eight to ten releases lined up for the near future , which means his profile and audience will only grow from here. Booking Havi now means getting one of Pakistan’s most exciting rising artists at a moment when his career is genuinely accelerating.
