Billy X is one of Pakistan’s most recognized names in hip-hop and Punjabi rap. At a time when desi rap was struggling to find its identity, Billy X stepped forward with a sound that was raw, energetic, and unapologetically local. With his signature blend of Punjabi and Urdu lyrics layered over hard-hitting beats, he carved out a lane that few artists in Pakistan had explored before him.
His stage name says a lot about who he is. Billy chose it because, as he himself once explained, his real name simply did not match the rapper image he was building. The “X” stuck, and so did his reputation as one of the boldest voices in Pakistani urban music.
Born on February 5, 1983, in Lahore, Pakistan, Billy X grew up with roots stretching back to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. He had never even heard rap music until around the 10th grade, when he came across Eminem’s track “The Real Slim Shady.” That single moment changed everything. From that point on, Babar Khan, the person behind the persona, began a journey into a genre that was almost completely foreign to the Pakistani mainstream.
Billy X did not become an overnight sensation. His early years were about learning the craft, practicing privately, and finding the courage to perform. It was during his time at FC College in Lahore that he first started doing live gigs, small gatherings where he tested his lyrics in front of real audiences. Things picked up more seriously when he began studying at the Lahore School of Economics, where a contact through KAPS helped him land a proper performance slot. After that, the bookings kept coming.
His academic journey eventually took him to the University of Technology Sydney, where he pursued a Master’s program even while his music career was growing. The combination of higher education and artistic discipline shaped him into someone who approached rap not just as entertainment, but as a genuine form of expression.
Billy X has never pretended to come from a single musical tradition. His influences span decades and genres. Eminem was the spark that started it all, but his musical palette grew to include hard rock legends like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, and Blind Guardian. Over time, he shifted toward softer, more melodic influences such as The Script, Ed Sheeran, and Damien Rice.
This range of influences is what makes Billy X stand out in the Punjabi rap space. He does not simply follow a formula. His lyrics carry emotional weight, and his verses move between humor, raw frustration, self-reflection, and cultural pride. He has always been deeply intentional about what he puts on record.
Billy X released his debut album Baadshah in 2014 through Speed Records, and it remains his most celebrated body of work. The album is a showcase of everything he does well: sharp Punjabi writing, catchy hooks, vivid storytelling, and an unapologetic confidence in his own voice.
The tracklist tells its own story. Anni Da Puttar, the album opener, channels a feeling of personal power mixed with self-destructiveness. Juttni became a crowd favorite almost instantly, offering a comical take on the frustrations of everyday relationships in a way that resonated with listeners across age groups. Kurti, featuring Moeez Khan, added a playful energy to the project. Bechaini brought emotional depth, while Chiknay Khilari paid tribute to a shared love of speed, cars, and heavy bikes. Hor Nai, featuring Rizwaan Butt, extended the world of Juttni across the three stages of a Pakistani wedding: mehndi, baraat, and walima.
Dil Walo Ki Duniya was originally written as a soundtrack for Waqar Zaka’s popular show Living on the Edge. Billy X loved the track so much that he completed and included it in the album, and it became one of the project’s most emotionally driven moments.
The album reached audiences on Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube, where his music videos attracted millions of views and introduced a new generation to desi hip-hop.
What separates Billy X from many of his peers is his ability to own a stage. He is not just a recording artist. He is a performer in the true sense, someone who brings energy, engagement, and crowd connection to every show. He has performed at universities, private functions, cultural festivals, and large-scale events across Pakistan, earning a reputation as a reliable and high-impact live act.
His style is accessible enough for mixed audiences while carrying enough artistic substance to satisfy genuine hip-hop fans. Whether it is a wedding celebration looking for something modern and exciting, a corporate event that needs a memorable entertainment moment, or a university night that demands high energy, Billy X brings the kind of presence that people talk about long after the event ends.
If you are planning an event and want a performer who breaks the mold, Billy X is a smart choice. He represents a genre that is growing fast in Pakistan, and his name carries real recognition among audiences who follow desi music. He is not just a name on a poster; he is a proven crowd-puller with a decade of live performance experience behind him.
